Connecting Tilt devices to log fermentation data

Data from your Tilt is passed to Simple Brew via a webhook. There are two methods for logging Tilt data. Either through the Tilt mobile app or Tilt Pi (recommended). Read more about Tilt Pi here. For your data to sync to Simple Brew one of the two methods must be active and logging. This means having Tilt Pi up and running or having the Tilt app open and connected to your device.

To connect Tilt follow these steps:

  1. Go to settings within the Simple Brew app and choose 'Connect devices'

  2. Toggle 'Tilt Hydrometer' to on. This will generate a cloud URL for you to enter into the Tilt app or the Tilt Pi app. Copy the link.

  3. Go to your Tilt app settings. Toggle on "3rd Party Logging" and paste your unique URL in the URL field.

  4. Submit a comment in the Tilt app (this will force a data send from Tilt)

  5. Go back to Simple Brew and navigate to the batch you wish to connect to Tilt.

  6. With Tilt toggled to on you will now see a 'Connect devices' button below the chart.

  7. Your connect devices will show in a modal. Select the device you wish to connect to the batch.

  8. Done! Your batch will now be automatically updated with temperature and gravity readings every 15 minutes (or more depending on Tilt settings).

If you don't see a reading right away, enter a comment through the Tilt app. This will force a reading to the cloud.

We recommend using a dedicated Raspberry Pi with Tilt Pi installed for logging. Using the Tilt App requires a dedicated device in kiosk mode to remain within range of your fermenter.
